I would love to have automatic headlights.

  • Electrical problems - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Electrical problems has caused this car to be in the dealers garage 10 or 12 times since purchase. Most common is right rear wheel ABS speed sensor which has been replaced 3 times. Several other check engine have resulted in computer program upgrades. We like the car but do not feel it is reliable.

  • Disappointing - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Had struts replaced at 65,000. The mechanic has replaced the strut mounts 4 times because whenever the weather turns cold we get a bad clunking sound when we hit a bump. Also problems with the electric windows and locks.

  • Very reliable and smooth ride - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

We have owned this minivan for 3 years. It cost $10k less than similar Honda. No problems at all to date. Ride is very comfortable for driver and front passenger. Back seats are not comfortable but they are for kids, so who cares. Lots of space. Very pleased with this vehicle.

This is a great van. There are minor mechanical issues with this model. If you can work on your own car and get one of these used you can save a ton of money. Honda and Toyota are twice a as much used. Transmissions are solid as long as you use Dodge approved fluid only (ATF +4) and nothing else. A Dodge transmission is $1,700 and a Toyota is $4,700 to replace.

  • Happy with my SXT - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Im happy with my GC SXT so far. Ive put about 2500 miles on it to date and that includes a 500 RT mile trip to Maine. Acceleration for such a heavy van is very good. Comfortable seats. Smooth and surprisingly nimble to drive. Braking system is good and easy to handle even when stopping suddenly. My kids (4 & 7) are comfortable in the rear seats - no complaints. They like reclining for sleep. CD Stereo and A/C are good and easy to operate. I like the electronic doors and liftgate - my wife doesnt - so she uses them manually which is fine.

  • Air Conditioning? - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

This is my 8th Chrysler/Dodge vehicle and they seem to get worse as the competition gets better. This is the 4th van still driving the 1998 but the 2005 is a joke. Numerous issues and now it is the A/C that Chrysler is famous for. Talked with the dealer in St Charles ILL, rear evaporator is leaking but nothing can be done except cough up 700 to 900 dollars to fix. I expressed my disgust with the a/c units on their vehicles same issue on the 2002 that I had. His response was keeps me busy doesnt it. This is the type of attitude and quality that the Germans didnt know what to do with so they dumped the company and it will fail. No more Chryslers Ford Flex here I come

  • Solid Van, Great Value - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

I bought this van about one year ago. It replaces a 2001 Honda Civic, which was not all that reliable. It was a great value. For the same money, a Toyota or Honda would have been twice as old and had at least twice the miles. Does that really make sense? As someone who as owned Honda and Toyota, I say no. So far, reliability has been great. A corroded battery cable, not unusual for that mileage, has been the only problem. Fuel mileage is good considering its size and it is a great road vehicle. Dont care for the 2nd row Stow and Go. Storage is nice but the seats are not very comfortable for adults. Build quality is just OK but as a whole, this van works pretty well.

  • Versatility King - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

I bought the Grand Caravan over the new Odyssey because of the StownGo feature and it hasnt disappointed me. I need versatility and maximum cargo space, and the Dodge has it and more. Reliability and build quality are not on par with Japanese vehicles but they cannot match the Dodges versatility. I keep my vehicles forever, so resale value is not a factor to me.
